Dear Colleagues

Its almost only two weeks until our FCERM.net Annual Assembly, which will take place on Thursday May 28th in Edinburgh, at the John McIntyre Conference Centre, close to Arthur's Seat.  We have a full programme focusing on the theme of Dissemination and Impact and our keynore speakers for the event are Prof. Jim Hall, University of Oxford and Dr. Christel Prudhomme , CEH Wallingford.  You can view our full programme here.

What's on offer?

Our conference dinner which aims to help our delelgates network in a relaxed and informal environment, a poster session and competition to encourage sharing of knowlege and expertise among our delegates, and a programme packed full, with a focus on dissemination and impact!  More details can be found below.

Conference Dinner

Our Assembly dinner will take place in the Hub, a historic venue at the heart of the Royal Mile, close to Edinburgh Castle.  Our pre-dinner drinks reception will take place in The Hub, Castlehill Edinburgh, EH1 2NE, from 7pm.  For more information on how to get to the hub, please use this link

The dinner is free to attend, but registration is essential.  Please indicate on your registration form if you intend to join us for dinner, and if you have any special dietary requirements.


We had reserved a limited number of rooms on-site to the John McIntyre Conference Centre.  Availability is limited, and priority has been given to those travelling long distances to attend the event. 

We will cover the costs of accommodation for staff and students at UK research institutions. We have only a handful of rooms left. To apply for accomodation, please register as soon as possible.

Poster Session and Competition

Posters will be displayed in the main concourse at the event all day but the main poster session will take place during the first coffee break and during the second half of lunch, when our judges will be circulating.  Prizes will be awarded to those who fulfil some (or all) of the following criteria:

  • Innovation in Research
  • Thoughtful presentation/visual communication
  • Excellent engagement with delegates/considered responses to questions
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration/ stakeholder engagement

There are a limited number of poster boards.  If you would like to take part in the session, please send an email to note your interest to L.F.Collet@hw.ac.uk

If accepted, you will receive a poster board number and a reminder of the guidelines for the session. Please note: Posters should be printed A0 Size, portrait orientation.  Velcro patches will be provided for attachment to boards.

Getting Here

Pollock Halls is situated close to Arthur’s Seat, 2 miles from Edinburgh Waverley train station. You can get there from the centre of town easily by bus or cab.


Buses leave from Princes Street (on the ‘shop’ side) regularly.The journey costs £1.50 for a single fare and you will need the correct change:

Bus No. 3, 30, 33

Take any of these buses to the Royal Commonwealth Pool on Dalkeith Road.Pollock Halls is situated behind the Pool ,so walk either left or right from the stop for entry.The journey should take around 10 minutes or so.


There are taxi ranks outside all of the exits from Waverly Train Station.A taxi ride should take about 10minutes and will cost between £8-10.

From the Airport

If you are flying, Pollock Halls is about 8 miles from Edinburgh International Airport. A taxi will cost around £20, or take an airlink bus service to Waverley Bridge from where you will be able to walk to Princes Street to catch a bus to the campus.
