Environment Agency and Forestry Commission opportunity mapping for Natural Flood Management

Natural flood Management

The Environment Agency and Forest Research published their opportunity mapping work under the Woodland for Water initiative which aims to identify where planting of woodland at a variety of scales can help to deliver water quality objectives under the EU Water Framework Directive (through tackling diffuse pollution and riparian habitat improvement) as well as slowing the rate of surface water flow for flood risk management benefit.  The report will assist with identification of locations which would be appropriate to qualify for an 'additional contribution' under the Forestry Commission England's Woodland Creation Grant and may be read via the Woodland for Water website.

A range of other opportunity mapping is either being planned or has been delivered for Scotland and at regional and catchment level, with details available on the website.
